Does your gum hurt or bleed while brushing? Do something about it. We will show you how.

Our prophylaxis concept includes a variety of measures and possibilities.

Our teeth are firmly anchored in the periodontium. If the periodontium is inflamed by bacteria, this is called periodontitis. Colloquially, the term periodontitis has become widespread.

Periodontitis begins unnoticed and develops insidiously. It is considered the main cause of tooth loss in adults and affects about half of the population. Periodontitis also increases the risk for various diseases such as diabetes, rheumatism and coronary heart disease, and can negatively affect outcome.

Periodontitis is caused by excessive bacterial plaque. Bacterial plaque formation is normal. However, it should be removed daily. This is done by daily dental care.

If oral hygiene is inadequate, more and more bacteria will settle on the teeth and multiply rapidly. This creates a complex community of bacteria. This process is facilitated by smoking, a weakened immune system, metabolic diseases, hereditary predisposition or even during pregnancy.

Periodontitis begins with inflammation of the gums, called gingivitis. If this condition persists, more and more surrounding tissue gets involved.

Regular bleeding of the gums must be understood as a warning signal. Unpleasant bad breath also signals an urgent need for action. As a result of the inflammation, the gums recede and form pockets. As the disease progresses, the roots of the teeth and bones are attacked. This leads to loosening of the tooth and ultimately its loss.

The first step consists of removing plaques and tartar professionally. If deeper pockets have already developed, plaques on the root surface must also be removed. Depending on the severity and the patient's wishes, this is done under local anesthetic.

Regular dental prophylaxis is the best way to keep your teeth healthy in long term, along with dental care at home. Together with the patient, a personal concept is developed to prevent and fight periodontitis.
